Stand Up & Speak Out
is a worldwide call-to-action to make poverty history and to meet the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. Between 4pm CDT on Oct 16th and 4pm CDT on Oct 17th, millions all over the world will Stand Up and Speak Out against poverty. (www.standagainstpoverty.org) This year, inspired by its founder, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, the Art of Living Foundation is joining the movement to raise awareness to eradicate poverty & hunger, promote gender equality, ensure environmental sustainability, improve health conditions and achieve universal primary education around the world. Art of Living Foundation encourages city governments, schools, universities, businesses, non-profit organizations, corporations and individuals to host or join an event in their area.

The Art of Living Foundation Chapters across the the US will lead a major effort on October 16th & 17th to bring local community members together to spread the word.

Join us from 4:00 pm CDT on October 16, 2007 to 4:00 pm CDT on October 17, 2007 to break the guinness world record for the largest number of people to stand up against poverty, and for the millennium development goals.

If you’d like more information about events across the US or to setup an event, please call Rekha Kodialbail at 408.946.4610, or email gkrekha@gmail.com.

Will You Be One Of Them?

* STAND UP to bring Poverty Down
* SPEAK OUT for the Achievement of the Millennium Development Goals
* STAND UP against injustice and inequality
* SPEAK OUT to Demand that Promises made by our Governments must be kept
* STAND UP & Be Counted
* SPEAK OUT & Be Heard

Why STAND UP & SPEAK OUT?
Let us Work Together - 189 Country Heads firmly committed to work Together and Build A Safer, more Prosperous and Equitable World for all by 2015 at the Millennium Summit in September 2000. They adopted unanimously a Visionary Document named Millennium Declaration, which gave birth to the eight Millennium Declaration Goals (MDGs).

What are the Millennium Development Goals?

  • Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger
  • Achieve Universal Primary Education
  • Promote Gender Equality & Empower Women
  • Reduce Child Mortality
  • Improve Maternal Health
  • Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other Diseases
  • Ensure Environmental Sustainability
  • Develop a global Partnership for development

How Are We Responsible?
Even today,
1200 million people struggle to survive in less than 1 dollar a day;
50,000 people die of extreme poverty;
113 million children do not have access to primary education;
Of 4 children born, 1 will not reach the age of 5 and more than 13 million children are orphans due to HIV/AIDS
