Q: What is vairagya (dispassion)?
Sri Sri:
If you are dispassionate, then you are enthusiastic and joyful. It is not some state born out of frustration but comes through awareness. In your childhood days, your life was the cotton candy or the toys. But today you look at those things differently. This is not born out of frustration but through awareness.
Q: If everything is God's work, are the good things and bad things occurring to me is also His action?
Sri Sri:
God has given you intellect. If you don't use it, you land up in trouble. Animals have no choice because they have no intellect. We cant be like that. Freedom comes with intellect. So we can't say that everything happens. Life is a combination of rules and freedom. Let us say that a cow is tied to a bamboo through a rope. The cow's freedom is within the rope's limit. We have little freedom. Increasing freedom is spirituality. Through seva(service) you get merit and achieve increase in freedom. Complete freedom is siddhi(special power). Mind is stable and does not get stuck is free mind and it is called siddha's mind.
Q: Why is that people suffer when they are in spiritual path?
Sri Sri: If you are suffering, it is because of foolishness and not because of spirituality. People on the path are strong enough to face turbulent times. If you are not on the path, you will break
down. So, spirituality gives you strength!
Q: How can we help others when there are so many obstacles?
Sri Sri: When you are doing something for others, nature will help you. I was in Germany some years back and people from Russia wanted me to come there. I too agreed and they organized a program. The program was on Monday. It was Friday or Saturday and I was still in Germany. I still did not have the visa for Russia. Those days, getting a visa was really tough and it will take couple of weeks for it. I just decided to go to Russia without a visa. I landed in Moscow airport without a visa. On seeing my passport, they said that I have to go back. I told them that nearly 6000 people are waiting outside the airport for me. Do you really want me to go back without meeting them? The officer said that it is not possible to get in but he will just see if he can do something. I was smiling and relaxed along with the people who came with me. He came back and said I can't give you the visa and it is not possible. As he was saying NO NO he stamped my passport! When you are doing something for others, nature will help you.
